Description
TWO VOLUME SET. The Sarajevo Haggadah is a 14th-century illuminated manuscript which is considered by many to be the single most beautiful and elaborate manuscript of the Sephardic tradition, and one of the most prized articles of Jewish art in general. The first volume contains a full facsimile edition of the manuscript, complete with the numerous illustrations and decorations for which it is famous. The second volume, a small booklet written in English, serves as an appendix for the English-speaking reader and contains a short introduction to the text, page-by-page translation of the Hebrew text and a short explanation for each illustration. [FACSIMILE]: 245x180mm. 140 double facsimile pages (altogether 20 pages). Off-white marbled Hardcover laid in marbled board slipcase. Gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Slipcase slightly stained and dirty. Slipcase spine and fore edge bumped. Spine edges slightly bumped. [APPENDIX]: 230x165mm. 45 pages. Illustrated Softcover. Rear cover bottom part slightly creased. [SUMMARY]: Both volumes of a facsimile and an English appendix to the celebrated Sarajevo Haggadah are in very good condition.
