EXTREMELY RARE volume containing 19 issues from 1924 of the Yiddish newspaper "Ilustrirte Woch" (Illustrated Week). Very few copies of this once popular Jewish newspaper, which was published in Warsaw in the 1920s, have survived. The issues contain a large amount of b&w photographs and illustrations, which together form a complete image on the life and interests of the Jews in inter-war Poland. Among the news items to be found in these issues are the trial of Adolph Hitler, the crowning of the Hashemite kings in Iraq and Transjordan, the exile of the old Ottoman regime. Most issues also feature an anthropological piece with exotic photographs from around the world. The issues also feature sections dedicated to literature, art (with reproductions of modern works by Jewish artists, including some lesser known avant-guard artists), women and sports.
