Jean Astruc (1684-1766) was a professor of medicine at Montpellier and Paris, who wrote the first great treatise on syphilis and venereal diseases, and also played a fundamental part in the origins of critical textual analysis of works of scripture. This edition is old and handsome, and features several text decorations. 175x230mm. XXXII+639 pages. Smooth leather Hardcover. Cover somewhat worn and stained. Cover corners bumped. Pen inscription on spine. Spine edges peeling. Inner covers stained. Ink marks on title page. Few last index pages bottom corner stained. Pages yellowing, wavy and slightly age-stained.
