RARE jubilee volume of `Das Jüdisch-Theologische Seminar (Fränckelscher Stiftung)` - the first modern rabbinical seminary in Central Europe founded in 1854, in its time the most important institution for the training of rabbis in Europe, which served as the model for similar colleges set up later in Europe and the United States. The author Markus Brann (1849-1920) was a renowned German-Jewish rabbi who occupied the chair of history (later he also assumed the duties of librarian) and taught exegesis and Talmudic codes at the seminary. This extremely rare history of this unique institute of Jewish studies bears special historical significance due to the wealth of sources available to its author. Contains frontispiece of the seminary`s founder Jonas Fränckel and photos of several other important personalities in the history of the seminary. 240x165mm. 209+LIV pages. Quarter-cloth marbled board Hardcover with gilt spine rebound with original softcover. Cover and spine rubbed. Cover edges worn. Cover corners and spine edges bumped and peeling. Spine faded and slightly stained. Small pieces of spine hinges and bottom edge missing. Original front cover partly detached from binding. Previous owner`s small stamp on front whitepage. Pages yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare historical monograph on the most influential Jewish educational institute in Europe is in good condition.
