TWO VOLUME SET. These two volumes, while not originally printed as a set, complete each other in their description of the Sarajevo Haggadah, a 14th-century illuminated manuscript which is considered by many to be the single most beautiful and elaborate manuscript of the Sephardic tradition, and one of the most prized articles of Jewish art in general. The first volume contains a full facsimile edition of the manuscript, complete with the numerous illustrations and decorations for which it is famous. The second volume, a small booklet written in English, serves as an appendix for the English-speaking reader and contains a short introduction to the text, page-by-page translation of the Hebrew text and a short explanation for each illustration. [FACSIMILE]: 235x175mm. 104 facsimile pages. Brown leather Hardcover laid in beige leather slipcase. Embossed framing on cover. Embossed lettering on front cover and spine. Slipcase slightly dirty. Slipcase front upper corner and rear bottom corner and edges slightly tattered/worn. Slipcase spine upper edge and spine edges slightly wrinkled. [APPENDIX]: 227x165mm. 45 pages. Illustrated Softcover. Spine and spine edges bumped/wrinkled. Text block edges, inner cover and whitepages age-stained. [SUMMARY]: Both volumes, containing a facsimile and an English appendix to the celebrated Sarajevo Haggadah, are otherwise in very good condition.
