RARE collection of papers on the Fantoni family of artisans, together with a comprehensive catalog of works by the important Bergamese family of woodcarver sculptors and architects who between the second half of the 1400s and the end of the 1700s founded one of the most active artisan workshops in the area of Bergamo and its valleys, becaming known as the "Fantoni`s workshop". The earliest records of the family date back to the 14th century with surnames De Elefantonibus, De Faritonibus, De Fantonis Fantonus, Fantonis, becoming Fantoni in the 18th century. Despite the high artistic quality of their works, the Fantoni family didn`t become known to the wide public and their works are known mainly to art historians. Contains 260 b&w and 10 color full-page illustrations, a fold-out map with locations of Fantoni`s works throughout Italy, and a folding genealogical tree of Fantoni Family. 215x155mm.
