TWO VOLUME SET. RARE comprehensive monograph on the life and works of an eminent Italian painter of the Sienese school Ambrogio Lorenzetti (or Ambruogio Laurati; c. 1290-1348), active from approximately 1317 to 1348. He painted `The Allegory of Good and Bad Government` in the Sala dei Nove (Salon of Nine or Council Room) in Siena`s Palazzo Pubblico. His elder brother was the painter Pietro Lorenzetti. Vol.1 contains the text and 8 color plates, vol.2 contains 235 b&w plates/illustrations. [BOTH VOLUMES]: 305x230mm. [XII+158 pages] + [235 plates]. Dark-blue cloth Hardcover with illustrated dust-jacket. Jacket spine faded/yellowing. Jacket edges and corners worn/wrinkled. Spine edges bumped. [VOL.II]: Jacket spine upper edge partly torn and rear bottom corner partly missing. Cover upper corners slightly bumped. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare two-volume pioneering examination of an artist who, Vasari called "a great philosopher" is in good condition.
