RARE copy from the SECOND EDITION which was printed in Leipzig between 1924 and 1928, as part of the Hermann Hesse Gessamelte Werke series. In this novel, Hesse attempts to reconcile individualism with Buddhism through the eyes of a contemporary of the Buddha himself. [ATTRIBUTES:] 185x115mm, 174pp. Greyish-blue hardcover with Hesse`s initials printed on front. [CONDITION:] Spine completely missing - binding still intact. Tape on bottom of spine. Hinges frayed. Front and rear covers faded and stained. All pages yellowing with occasional minor age-stained. [SUMMARY:] A rare early edition of Hesse`s Buddhist-themed novel, in mediocre external condition but good internal condition.
