Description
This book consists of many articles written by Stratford Canning (Viscount Stratford de Redcliffe). Canning was central to British-Turkish relationships in the 19th century, serving as British ambassador in Constantinopole for many years and generally holding key negotiation positions in British foreign relations throughout his career. Thus, he had first hand insights into the politics of the time of the Eastern Crisis and the Russo-Turkish war. The articles in this book were first published between autumn 1874 to November 1878. The book is accompanied by a fold-out map of the area in question (the Black Sea and the Balkans).150x225mm. XXIV+216+32 pages. Green cloth hardcover with gilt decoration on front. Cover worn, slightly stained and on edges and corners bumped. Spine on edges worn. Previous owner`s name on title page. Pages yellowing. Page edges slightly rough. Save for some light wear it has endured, this first-hand account of one of the most burning international problems of the 19th century is in good condition.
