RARE monograph on the history and influence of the Christian Nestorian Church in China by (Peter) Yoshiro Saeki (1871-1965), the renowned Japanese scholar of religion and law, author of `The Nestorian Monument in China` (1916), an analysis of the Nestorian Stele, a monument describing the Chinese Nestorian church in 781 AD, with summary of the competing theories about the stele. Although best known for his theories on Nestorianism and Jewish culture in Japan, he is also renowned for his involvement in the planning of the new Hiroshima after the atomic bombing. Contains a frontispiece of an archaeological object, several b&w photographic plates and figures depicting the old documents discussed, as well as a handful of folding plates. Additionally included is a clean copy of the original Chinese text of the Chinese-Nestorian scriptures depicted in the plates. 165x215mm. 3+7+11+525+30+101 pages.
