Description
VOLUME ONE ONLY - Tomo I. RARE early Spanish translation of "De la manière d`enseigner et d`étudier les belles-lettres" (The Mode of Teaching and Studying the Belle-Lettres") by the renowned French educator and historian Charles Rollin (1661-1741). The book was translated by Maria Catalina de Caso, one of the prominent female figures in the Spanish Enlightenment movement. The book features text decoration on the beginnings of each chapter. Prefaced with dedication to queen Maria Barbara and an ecclesiastical approbation. 200x145mm. 419 pages. Smooth leather Hardcover. Cover creased and stained. Two holes on cover, probably for lock-straps (which are missing). Cover partly loose from binding. Spine faded and loose. Endpapers water-damaged. Rear whitepage bottom edge slightly torn and creased. Pages yellowing and slightly wavy with few age-stains. [SUMMARY]: In spite of the external damage sustained by this rare 18th-century work on literary education, it is nonetheless intact and in good reading condition.
