RARE travel book by George Chaworth Musters (1841-1879) in which he describes his stay among a tribe of Patagonian Indians for around a year, which led to his being awarded a gold watch in 1872 by the Royal Geographical Society. His nickname "the king of Patagonia" also dates from this period. With map and b&w illustrations. 195x135mm. [XIX]+[340]+[32] pages. Maroon cloth Hardcover with gilt illustration on front. Gilt lettering on spine. Cover edges and corners worn. Spine edges bumped and peeling/worn. Binding slightly loose. Map torn into two pieces and in several other places. Ex-libris on front inner cover. Previous owner`s name written in pen on pre-title page. Binding visible between pages 96-97. Some page edges water-stained - NO damage to text! Pages XIV and 162-175 detached from binding with worn edges. Pages yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This rare book has sustained some wear, but is still in good reading condition.
