RARE edition of Emeq ha-Bakha (The Vale of Tears) by Joseph Ha-Cohen (1496-1575), 16th century Jewish prominent historian and physician. This historical martyrology describes various persecutions of the Jews throughout their history up to the year 1575, and served as reading on the fast of 9 Av. Joseph Ha-Cohen published four editions of the chronicle in his lifetime: first in 1558 at Voltaggio, another in 1563, third ca 1565, and the fourth and final in 1575. It circulated in Italy in manuscript and was edited for the first time by Samuel David Luzzatto and published in 1852 by Max Letteris. 160x120mm. 200 pages. Quarter-cloth rebound Hardcover. Cover and cover edges slightly worn. Cover corners bumped and slightly peeled. Small parts of spine missing. Spine edges peeled. 3 previous owner`s stamps and small sticker on front inner cover. Pages slightly yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This rare edition of classic Jewish martyrology is in good condition.
