RARE FIRST EDITION prayer book compiled by the prominent American rabbi, author, and leader of Reform Judaism - Joseph Krauskopf (1858-1923). Krauskopf was also the founder of the National Farm School (now Delaware Valley University), and long-time (1887-1923) rabbi at Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel (KI), the oldest reform synagogue in Philadelphia which under Krauskopf, became the largest American Jewish reform congregation, for which this service manual was published. Contains indices of subjects of meditations and exhortations, and of first lines of hymns. 195x135mm. 560 pages. Black cloth Hardcover with brown cloth spine. Cover and spine rubbed. Small sticker residue on front cover. Bump-mark on rear cover. Cover corners and edges bumped and peeling. Spine edges bumped. Title-page bottom part loose from binding. Title-page bottom corner slightly chipped. Binding slightly loose and visible between pages 2-3, 304-305 and 556-557. Page 15/16 edges worn - NO damage to text. Pencil underlining on page 396. Pages yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare first edition of the historically significant American Jewish reform service manual is otherwise in good condition.
