RARE book displaying a large collection of Jewish signatures and book-plates with an account of the development of the practice of recording owner`s names in books, from personal signatures to book-plates, by major authority in the field of Jewish bibliography and medieval Jewish poetry manuscripts. Abraham Meir Habermann taught medieval literature at Tel-Aviv University (from 1957, professor from 1969) and at the Graduate Library School of the Hebrew University, and was librarian at the Schocken Library in Berlin from 1928, and, after immigrating to Palestine in 1934, served as director of the Schocken Library in Jerusalem until 1967. Besides many studies in the field of medieval Hebrew poetry and bibliographical studies, he authored also `The History of the Hebrew Book: from Marks to Letters, from Scroll to Book` and `Title Pages of Hebrew Books`, both in Hebrew.
