Description
EXTREMELY RARE. A book of poems written by Fanny Baumel, with the express purpose of attracting women to the stories of the Torah, to which they were not directly exposed at the time. Baumel wrote one poem for each Parasha in the Torah. Baumel herself acknowledges the unusual nature of this endeavour in her foreward, apologizing for her "audacity" in writing such a book. The book was printed in 1936 in Oradea, Romania, with the blessing of Oradea`s Chief Rabbi Benjamin Fuchs, who died the same year. The book includes a facsimile of a letter in Yiddish written by Fuchs. Also includes tipped-in frontispiece of Fanny Baumel herself. [ATTRIBUTES:] 240x170mm, 96 pages. Tan softcover. [CONDITION:] Cover worn, heavily stained and somewhat browned. Spine and hinges heavily worn, but still solid. All pages stained along outer text block and edges. All pages lightly age-stained. [SUMMARY:] An extremely rare Jewish poetry book for women, visibly aged but still in relatively GOOD condition.
