RARE compilation of all 1862 and 1863 issues of the "Jüdisches Volksblatt" (9th and 10th Jahrgang), a weekly German-Jewish periodical edited by Ludwig Philippson, an eminent 19th-century German rabbi and writer on Jewish themes, renowned for his translation of the Old Testament. One of his main aims in publishing the `Jüdisches Volksblatt` was the emancipation of his Jewish fellow men, while at the same time to entertain and tighten the Jewish population to its culture. Text in Gothic lettering (Fraktur). Additionally included is a sample of Pentateuch in new German translation. 215x277mm. 230+280 pages. Black quarter leather Hardcover with gilt lettering on spine. Cover edges and corners worn and peeling. Cover coming loose from binding. Spine missing, the remaining part of detached from rear cover. Text block edges age-stained. Ex libris sticker on inner front cover. Ex-library copy with stamps. Contents page slightly torn. Pages browning, slightly wavy and age-stained.
