RARE compilation of all 1862 issues of the "Jüdisches Volksblatt" (9th Jahrgang), a weekly German-Jewish periodical edited by Ludwig Philippson, an eminent 19th-century German rabbi and writer on Jewish themes, renowned for his translation of the Old Testament. One of his main aims in publishing the `Jüdisches Volksblatt` was the emancipation of his Jewish fellow men, while at the same time to entertain and tighten the Jewish population to its culture. Text in Gothic lettering (Fraktur). 220x270mm. 212 pages. Marbled board Hardcover with cloth spine. Cover yellowing, rubbed and slightly scratched. Cover edges and corners bumped and peeling. Spine stained. Spine rear hinge bottom part partly cracked. Spine edges peeling. Small wormhole on spinet. Worm-mark on front inner cover. Previous owner`s name written in ink on whitepage upper edge. Binding slightly visible between pages 102-103. Pages 203-211 bottom corner creased. Page 211/212 edge slightly chipped - NO damage to text. Ex-library copy with stamps. Text block edges and pages browning. Pages wavy and slightly age-stained.
