This book consists of many articles written by Stratford Canning (Viscount Stratford de Redcliffe). Canning was central to British-Turkish relationships in the 19th century, serving as British ambassador in Constantinopole for many years and generally holding key negotiation positions in British foreign relations throughout his career. Thus, he had first hand insights into the politics of the time of the Eastern Crisis and the Russo-Turkish war. The articles in this book were first published between autumn 1874 to November 1878.
