Werblowsky is one of the world`s leading scholars in the field of comparative religious studies and hence also a contact person in the study of Buddhist scriptures. This book includes Buddhist Peta-stories and the traditional commentaries on these stories by the early commentator Dhammapāla. In Buddhism, Petas are so called "hungry ghosts", controled by desires which cannot be fulfilld. This causes them an indescribable feeling of hunger and thirst - due to this circumstance they are called "hungry ghosts"(=Petas).
