RARE compilation of all 1860 and 1861 issues of the "Jüdisches Volksblatt" (7th and 8th Jahrgang), a weekly German-Jewish periodical edited by Ludwig Philippson, an eminent 19th-century German rabbi and writer on Jewish themes, renowned for his translation of the Old Testament. One of his main aims in publishing the `Jüdisches Volksblatt` was the emancipation of his Jewish fellow men, while at the same time to entertain and tighten the Jewish population to its culture. Text in Gothic lettering (Fraktur). 280x230mm. 208+206 pages. Black quarter leather Hardcover. Cover lightly worn on hinges. Cover slightly scratched and rubbed. Cover corners and edges bumped and worn. Cover coming loose from binding, but still attached. Spine missing. Text block edges age-stained. Ex library sticker on front inner cover. Few pages tattered (most of the affected pages have tears on text), other pages slightly dog eared. Pages mildly browning and/or age-stained. [SUMMARY]: Although this extremely rare, combining two Jahrgangs of an influential German-Jewish periodical has suffered some external damage, it is still in good reading condition - only in few places the damage hinders the reading, but doesn`t make it impossible.
