RARE monograph on vocal music of the Jews from the Tunisian Djerba island in Tunisia by Robert Lachmann (1892-1939), an eminent Jewish German ethnomusicologist, linguist, musicologist, orientalist and library official, who founded the center of Oriental music and the "Archive for Oriental Music" in the The Hebrew University of Jerusalem following his immigration to Palestine in 1935. Robert Lachmann was one of the leading experts in the music of the Orient, a member of the Berlin School of Comparative Musicology and one of its founding fathers, one of the few westerners to participate in the 1932 Cairo Congress of Arab Music. 240x165mm. 115 pages. Maroon rebound Hardcover with cloth spine and corners. Title sticker (probably part of original cover) pasted on front cover. Cover rubbed and slightly stained. Cover and spine edges worn. Sticker residues and correction fluid marks on spine. Spine front hinge upper edge cracked. Ex-library copy with stamp on bottom edge of front inner cover and title page, and several pages. Binding slightly visible between front endpaper and whitepage. Binding visible between pages 16-17. Tape between several pages - no damage to text. 20 last page edge near upper corner bumped. Inner cover and several pages age-stained. Pages yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This rare study of Jewish vocal music in Tunis is in good reading condition.
