This memorial volume meticulously documents the 160 Jewish communities, rural and urban, that existed in the Máramaros region in the Carpathains, between Romania, Hungary and the Ukraine, prior to the destruction of the Jewish population in the area during the Holocaust. The Hebrew portion of the book lists the communities, and describes each of them, telling the story of its foundation, prominent figures and families and notable events in its history and provides exact statistical figures where possible. The English portion is an index, and an extensive preface on the unique history and culture of the region.
