TWO VOLUMES BOUND TOGETHER. RARE German translation in prose of `Jerusalem Delivered` - an epic poem by the legendary 16th-century Italian poet Torquato Tasso (1544-1595), best known for this poem (in Italian - `Gerusalemme liberata`, first published in 1581). The poem is a highly imaginative version of the combats between Christians and Muslims at the end of the First Crusade, during the Siege of Jerusalem. Contains an introduction and a short biography of Torquato Tasso. Title page of each volume contains a small b&w engraving. 145x95mm. 276+278 pages. Half-cloth marbled Hardcover with gilt spine. Cover and spine rubbed. Cover edges worn. Cover bottom corners and spine edges slightly bumped. Spine slightly wrinkled. Spine hinges rubbed. Two small pieces of paper tape pasted on pages 272-273 inner edge near binding with small damage to several words of the text. Pages yellowing, age-stained and wavy. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare and handsome edition of an old German translation of an influential epic Renaissance poem is overall in good condition.
