Description
EXTREMELY RARE treatise IN HEBREW on Jewish history by Shalom Cohen (1771-1845), an eminent Jewish poet and author of the Haskalah movement (Jewish Enlightenment), editor and founder of various important Hebrew newspapers. In 1838 he published the first part of "Kore Hadoroth", an essay on the history of the Jewish people from the Second Temple period to modern times, which he did not complete. Sections of later parts of the treatise were published after his death in various magazines. Cohen based his "Kore Hadoroth" on the historical writings of Isaak Markus Jost (Yitzhak Mordechai Joost), though with a less critical approach and clearer language, which made the book popular among the Maskilim. 190x120mm. [23]+[IV]+[279] pages. Black Hardcover rebound with cloth spine. Original title-page missing (photocopy of original title-page present instead).
