Description
RARE single omnibus volume featuring three works published by the Jewish-Russian scholar and member of the Haskalah movement David Baer Nathansohn. The first, "Sefer Ha-Zichronot" (the Book of Memoirs), is a biography of Nathansohn`s uncle, Isaac Baer Levinsohn, the founder of the Haskalah movement in the Russian empire. The other two works are by Levinsohn himself: the first, "Toldot Shem" (History of Shem) deals with Hebrew and Semitic grammar; the second, "Efes Damim", is a Platonic dialogue dealing with the issue of blood libel. 205x150mm. X+144+VIII+176+87 pages. Marbled quarter-leather Hardcover with gilt lettering on spine. Cover stained. Cover and spine edges worn. Cover corners bumped. Spine torn in the middle and partly detached from rear cover. Pen inscription and stamp on whitepage. Several pages slightly creased. Pages yellowing and age-stained. [SUMMARY]: Despite the external damage to cover, this collection of Levinsohn`s works is internally in good condition.
